Tunde Bakare, the serving overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly (LRA), says he will be rallying over 50 million Nigerians of voting age, by January 2019.

The fiery preacher on Sunday evening, launched the New Nigeria Progressive Movement, with the primary aim of shaping Nigeria’s political landscape beyond elections.

“While the short term temptation is to focus exclusively on routine citizen engagements ahead of elections, the New Nigeria Progressive Movement, which we are launching formally today, must be more futuristic in outlook,” Bakare said.

A group of thieves stole $5 million in cash, which had been due to travel from Brazil to Switzerland aboard a Lufthansa jet, at a large freight airport near Sao Paulo, police said Monday.

The spectacular heist, which took place late Sunday, was completed in a matter of minutes, and authorities have yet to arrest a suspect.

The crooks entered Viracopos International Airport's freight terminal using a pickup on which they had "placed stickers mimicking the runway security company's logo," federal police said in a statement.

Members and affiliates of the activist coalition, OurMumuDonDo Movement, will on Wednesday hold a rally at the headquarters of the Department of State Security (DSS) to demand the release of Mr. Tony Ezimakor, Abuja Bureau Chief of Independent Newspapers. Liberia’s President, George Weah, on Monday during a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, extolled Nigeria’s economic and military might in the West African sub region.

Weah who was on his first presidential visit to Nigeria, was nearly emotional in his admission that his country will make no progress without Nigeria’s continued support in the areas of economic, security and even manpower development.

“Although yours is the largest economy in Africa, with the most powerful Army in our sub region, you have never used your wealth, your military prowess to expand your territory, threaten your neighbours or destabilise any sovereign nation if the region,” Weah said in a speech monitored by Vigil360.

Former minister of information, Edwin Clark, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in the three north-eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

The elder statesman gave the advice on Monday while addressing reporters at his residence in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Reacting to the abduction of some schoolgirls by Boko Haram terrorists in Yobe, he noted that declaring a state of emergency in the states would go along way in eliminating the problem of insurgency in the troubled North East.

President Muhammadu Buhari made a surprise visit to Taraba State as part of his tour of states which included Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers. A statement by Mr Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, issued in Abuja on Monday, said the President decided on the visits after reviewing security reports on the incidents.
