The Acting President, Pro. Yemi Osinbajo says there is no plan to remove the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu. According to The Guardian, the Acting President made the statement on Thursday at the Commissioning of the Zonal Office of the EFCC in Kaduna.
The Acting President who was represented by the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Elrufai said “Shortly before the President left the country, I asked him about Ibrahim Magu and the President said he believes in what he is doing. He has his support. I want to also affirm here that Magu has my support. As far as I remain the acting President, Magu remains” he added
His statement is coming two days after the Senate and The Presidency are at loggerheads for failing to respect resolutions of the National Assembly especially on the rejection of nominees sent for confirmation.
The Senate had also requested the Acting President withdraw a statement credited to him that the Senate lacked the constitutional power to confirm some executive nominees.
The Red Chamber resolved to suspend further confirmation of all nominees pending when the Presidency respects its rejection of Magu confirmation.
Ostensibly, the position of the Acting President may further worsen the already frosty relationship between the two arms of government.
