Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday, paid a condolence visit the family of the late elder statesman, Maitama Sule, in Kano.
According to his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Laolu Akande, the Acting President, arrived Kano on third day prayer for the Dan Masanin Kano, and first visited the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, where he commiserated with the people of the Emirate before proceeding to the bereaved family.
“I am here to commiserate on the passing of a great Nigerian,” Osinbajo told the Emir.
“I met him when I was 15, was very fond of him. When he felt ill, he told me he was going to the hospital.
“So sad to hear of his death few days ago. He was a bridge-builder,” the Acting President mourned.
While at the family residence of the late sage, Osinbajo said he had come as his son of the elder statesman, who he described as “a great person and humble.”
He also said “President Buhari regards Maitama Sule a great Nigerian. He realised our country is great because we are diverse, had hope for Nigeria.”
The Acting President had earlier in a condolence message on Monday, “expressed his deep and heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, associates and the government of Kano State. He prayed that the Almighty God comforts all.”
