The Supreme Court has upheld the election of the Godwin Obaseki as governor of Edo State. A seven-man panel of judges led by Walter Onnoghen, Chief Justice of Nigeria, gave its verdict on Monday. This followed a judgment delivered in an appeal brought by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, challenging the decision of the Appeal Court which had earlier upheld Mr. Obaseki’s election.
However, it said it would give reasons for its decision on July 24. The court dismissed an appeal filed Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2016 Edo governorship election, challenging the decision of the appeal court which affirmed the position of Obaseki as governor.
Ize-Iyamu filed an appeal against the judgment of the tribunal at the appeal court, but he lost the case. Not satisfied with the decision, he proceeded to the apex court, which dismissed his appeal today.
