Following controversies that greeted the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen, the National Judicial Council (NJC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to both Onnoghen and Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.
The suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Buhari and the subsequent appointment of Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, has been subjected to several reactions and the National Judicial Council (NJC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to both and respond to a petition filed against them by the office of the Attorney-general of the Federation.
Muhammad, the acting CJN, has also been given a seven-day ultimatum to respond to a petition against him over an alleged breach of the council's rule.
The body also referred petition written against Danladi Umar, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, to the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC).
Vigil360 gathered that the NJC will reconvene on February 11, 2019, to discuss further actions against the nation’s top two judicial officers.
