The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has elected Joe Ajaero from Imo State as its new national president, who made history by emerging unopposed as the Union’s president. Prior to his emergence, Ajaero was the Deputy National President of NLC since 2011 and also the General Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) since 2005.

He was elected at the ongoing 13th National Delegates’ Conference of NLC being held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja where other new national leaders will also be selected for a term of four years.

He was a reporter/correspondent and Assistant News Editor at Vanguard Newspapers from 1992 to 2001 and Head of Training/Information, NUEE from 2001 to 2005.

His predecessor, Ayuba Wabba’s tenure as the Union’s president ends on Wednesday.
