The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday morning, reviewed the February 25th presidential election and made some observations, especially in terms of logistics management. The commission then promised to make improvements before going on to set the 7th and 8th of march as dates for the issuance of Certificates of Return to Senators-elect and House of Representatives-elect.

The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, while giving his address assured Nigerians that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used in the forthcoming governorship and state legislature elections. He added that the BVAS machines are being worked on to avoid a repeat of the glitches recorded during the last election.

He further urged the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to work harder to ensure that the governorship elections are better conducted than the presidential.

Before concluding the meeting, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu stated that only 423 legislative seats have been declared adding that supplementary elections would be conducted in 46 other constituencies.

According to the Chairman of the commission, “Certificates of Return will be presented to Senators-elect on Tuesday 7th March 2023 at 11.00 am at the National Collation Centre (the International Conference Centre), Abuja, while Members of the House of Representatives-elect will receive theirs the following day, Wednesday 8th March 2023, at 11.00 am at the same venue,” he said.

“However, for effective crowd management, each Senator/Member-elect should be accompanied by a maximum of two guests. The comprehensive list of all members-elect will be uploaded to the Commission’s website shortly.”
