The lawmaker representing Rivers South-east senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, has declared his intention to contest the next governorship election in the state.

Abe, a senator on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declared his interest on Wednesday while addressing a mammoth crowd at an event in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

He explained that rationale behind his decision to run for the governorship position was in the interest of the future of the state, adding that he had made all necessary consultations.

 The National Convention of Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC may hold after the Muslim Sallah in June, this year, as against the earlier announced date of May 14. The party said the national convention earlier fixed for May 14 would now hold at a later date to be determined by the National Working Committee (NWC).

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Nigerian Senate, seeking approval for the purchase of six Tucano helicopters worth $496,374,470 (151, 394, 421, 035 Naira) from the US.

The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki who read the letter on Wednesday at plenary disclosed that the helicopters, according to the President's letter are meant to support the drive to improve the security of the nation. The President expressed optimism that that the National Assembly would "have no objection to the purchase of the highly specialized aircraft which is critical to National Security".

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday released guidelines for the conduct of the forthcoming Wards’, Local Government Areas’ and State’s Congresses. The guidelines which was released in Abuja by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sen. Osita Izunaso, indicated that the Ward Chairmanship aspirants shall pay N10,000 each to obtain nomination form, while other officers shall pay N2,000.

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and many other Senators on Wednesday, about 1:35pm visited the National Hospital to see their counterpart, the Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye who is under arrest and currently receiving treatment due to the injuries he sustained while attempting to frustrate his arrest and arraignment in Lokoja.

The lawmakers, after arriving at the Hospital held a brief meeting with the management of the hospital before visiting Senator Melaye.

As political activities gain steam ahead of the National Convention of the All progressives Congress (APC), the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun has declared intention to seek reelection. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi made this known when he spoke to newsmen in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
