Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) including its Chairman, Uche Secondus, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Rivers State Governor Nysome Wike over the weekend stormed Delta State as people of Anioma endorsed the state governor for second term.

According to the organisers of the event, the decision to receive Governor Ifeanyi Okowa after three years in office is in recognition of his commitment to the actualisation of his campaign promises.

The Nigerian Immigration Service has confirmed the arrest of Sen. Dino Melaye at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday morning. According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Spokesman of the Service, Mr Sunday James, said that Melaye was arrested by Immigration officials “based on instruction”.

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Friday denied media reports that he was involved in the alleged sharing of illegally acquired N10 billion. Dr. Saraki in a statement issued by his Special Adiser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu said he had nothing to do with the referenced payment, receipt or disbursement of any extra-budgetary funds.

Senator Dino Melaye who was arrested this morning at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by officials of Nigerian Immigration Service has been released. Recall that officials of NIS had earlier confirmed his arrest, adding that it acted 'based on instruction'. The statement however failed to mention the official that authorized his arrest.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ekiti, Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji, on Thursday, alleged a threat to his life by unknown persons.

The INEC boss, who spoke at a stakeholders forum held in Ado-Ekiti ahead of the July 14 governorship election in the state, said he had been receiving strange calls from people threatening him if he fails to succumb to their bidding.

He appealed to all security agencies in the state to come to the aid of the commission by providing security for INEC officials as well as the over 10,000 corp members to be deployed for the conduct of the election.
