The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the extension of the John Odigie-Oyegun led national working committee (NWC) tenure still stands as the matter is now in court and that it has set up a committee to advise it on the position of President Muhammadu Buhari that the extension be cancelled.

The decision to extend the tenure of the NWC led by John Oyegun and other executives across the 36 states was taken at the national executive council (NEC) meeting in February.

The NEC had resolved to extend the tenure of the NWC by a year, with effect from June.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially declared his intention to run for president in 2019 on the Platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Mr Abubakar announced his candidacy in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Tuesday.

The former Vice President said his decision to make the announcement in Rivers State is because he believes Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike represents what he represented in 1998/99 as the live wire of the PDP.

President Muhammadu Buhari has advised the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider cancelling the tenure extension mandate of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by John Oyegun, chairman of the party. The president said this at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday presided over the inaugural meeting of the Food Security Council.

The meeting was held at the Presidential Villa in the nation’s capital in Abuja.

In attendance were five ministers which are Agriculture, Health, Water Resources, Information and Culture, as well as Industry, Trade and Investment.

Nigerian youths have formed a political party, Modern Democratic Party (MDP), to enable them play active role in the upcoming elections in 2019 and beyond.

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the Nigerian Bar Association and the Nigerian Body of Benchers in mourning the passing away of a prominent lawyer, bencher and jurist, Idowu Sofola (SAN), who led both groups at various times.

In a statement on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President also commiserated with the government and people of Ogun state, the Yoruba Elders Council, family and friends of the legal luminary.

In a bid to find lasting solution to the reoccurrence killing by herdsmen in the country, the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has held a meeting with the national leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN). According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the meeting, which was held in Sokoto, had in attendance NSGF Chairman, Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano and Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna.
