The Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, will on Tuesday meet with the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to discuss the details of the Operation Amotekun security initiative being championed by South-West Governors. Punch Newspaper quoted an unnamed presidency source as saying the governor had secured an appointment to meet with the President to explain the issue to him.

Governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has assured his supporters that the Supreme Court would not reverse its judgment that sacked his predecessor, Emeka Ihedioha, and declared him the winner of the March 19, 2019 governorship election.  Vigil360 had earlier reported that the apex court, on January 14, sacked Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on the ground that he did not score the lawful majority votes in the Imo governorship race and declared Uzodinma as the legitimate winner of the election.

Sen. Christopher Ekpenyong, Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West, has expressed dissatisfaction over the current electoral Act guiding the conduct of elections in the country, calling on the National Assembly to look into the Act so as to address the anomalies affecting smooth conduct of polls. He made the call on Thursday while speaking with journalists after he was sworn in as a senator by the President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan.

The Kebbi State executives of Kwankwasiyya movement under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.  The Youth leader of the movement, Mohammed I. Anaruwa Kele, who spoke on behalf of the defectors in Birnin Kebbi, said the decision to dump their former party was based on unflinching loyalty to the former chairman of the Kwankwasiya movement, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi who dumped the PDP last week for the ruling APC.

The national Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus on Friday said the party was, at the moment, concerned with rebuilding the party than the zoning of 2023 presidential ticket of the party. Secondus, who recently said the party would appeal the sack of Emeka Ihedioha as governor, spoke to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja. He stressed that the party was preparing itself to win elections in the future, while the issue of zoning would be looked into at the appropriate time.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state, Chief Basil Ejidike has assured of party’s readiness to defeat the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other contending parties for the office of the governor in 2021. Speaking to Daily Trust on Friday in Awka, Anambra state capital, Ejidike said the party is now better positioned and organised to take over the leadership in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to immediately declare vacant the seats of its members in the Imo state House of Assembly that defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress and conduct fresh elections in the affected local government.  The party made the call on Wednesday in a press conference held in Abuja.
