The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has revealed that the commission will investigate every campaign finance roll out by all politicians and political parties to identify if there is any form of violation.
The INEC boss told Journalists this in Abuja when he visited the Headquarters of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), he said there have been negative comment from some quarters over the Federal Government “Tradermoni program” which is being handled by the office of the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo to traders, Some people kick as they call it vote buying.
Prof. Yakubu, although accuse people of making partisan comment over everything, he revealed it was not the duty of his commission to join issues with any party, he said, “we will study all the comments we have heard from people and know if it is the type is issue we should be tracking.”
He revealed the commission has a mechanism for tracking campaign finances; however, “this doesn’t seem to fall in terms of campaign financing and in terms of expenditure by candidates and parties.
The INEC boss assured that measures have been put in place to forestall any form of vote buying during the election.
On his visit, he said the commission came to seek for partnering with the FRSC to help them fast-track all vehicles that will be involved in conveying election materials, so that no driver will attempt to escape with election materials.
