Aggrieved members of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) have resolved to commence strike on Monday September 18 following alleged refusal by the Federal Government to meet their demands two years after it promised to do so. The National Secretary of ASCSN, Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal made the position of the group known in a press statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday.
The statement lamented that two years after the Federal Government promised to meet their demands, nothing has been done. The group said while the federal government was busy giving bailout funds to state governments to pay their workers, their own entitlement has remained unattended to.
“It is rather unfortunate that the same federal government that has given state governments bailouts up to three times to settle the entitlements owed their workers takes delight in punishing its own employees by denying them their legitimate benefits” The statements said since government was not ready to meet their demand, workers have no option than to proceed on indefinite strike.
“Workers have now come to agree that the Federal Government is not in any way serious about paying them their outstanding entitlements. In view of the foregoing, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria has given the Federal Government a 7-day ultimatum with effect from 8th September 2017 within which to settle all the debts owed Federal officers failing which a 3-day warning strike will start in all the Federal MDA’s throughout the country.”
Meanwhile, the group has listed their demands to include outstanding salary arrears, promotion arrears, 1st 28 days allowance on transfer from post, mandatory training allowance of OHCSF 2010, repatriation allowance, burial benefits and burial expenses.
