Usman Named Fighter Of The Year By ESPN

The World-renowned sports channel, Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) has named Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman as the Fighter of the Year. Usman also known as the 'Nigerian Nightmare' beat other respectful fighters like Charles Oliveira, Ciryl Gane, Kayla Harrison, Connor McGregor amongst others to clinch the award.


According to the respected Mixed Martial Arts website, MMAfighting, Usman polled a total of 107 points while Oliveira came second with 87 points and Gane was third with 53 points.

The Nigerian was also ranked the best pound-for-pound fighter and in a poll, beat fellow Nigerian, Israel Adesanya, and Australian-born, Alexander Volkanovski to clinch the accolade.

Usman had an amazing 2021 by winning all three fights he had this year. He defeated Gilbert Burns via knockout in February. Usman claimed second victories in April against Jorge Mashvidal while in November he defeated Colby Covington via unanimous decision.
