Shareholders of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) have commended the management of the company for their effort and resolve towards bringing the investment corporation back to profitability.

At the company’s 12th Annual General Meeting in Lagos yesterday the National President, Association for the Advancement Rights Nigerian Shareholders, Dr. Faruk Umar, said that the management of the company kept to their words of delivering superior returns to the shareholders.

He stated: “The results we are considering today is very commendable. We have hardly ever seen a company that went from a loss position to a profit position by over 1000%. This is beyond impressive.

A Belgian court has found Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam guilty of attempted terrorist murder of police during a shootout with police in Brussels in March 2016, Belgian news agency Belga said on Monday. Neither Abdeslam nor co-accused Sofien Ayari, who Belga said was also found guilty, were in court to hear the ruling on Monday. The judge was continuing to read the verdict.

The Federal Executive Council has approved the signing of a licensing agreement between the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development and May & Baker Plc. Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewale revealed this at a briefing on the outcome of Wednesday’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Europa League trophy was stolen after being displayed at a publicity event in Mexico, only to be recovered a few hours later, authorities in the state of Guanajuato said on Saturday. The trophy had been on display at the football stadium in the city of Leon on Friday night, only to be taken from a car after the event.

Yahoo — or rather, the shell company holding on to its remnants — will have to pay a $35 million fine for failing to disclose a 2014 data breach in which hackers stole info on over 500 million accounts. The US Securities and Exchange Commission announced today that Altaba, which contains Yahoo’s remains, agreed to pay the fine to settle charges that it misled investors by not informing them of the hack until September 2016, despite knowing of it as early as December 2014.

Contrary to recent reports that Mercy Aigbe and her husband, Lanre Gentry may have reconciled their differences and could be reunited, Lanre has taken a swipe at her in his latest post on Instagram, subtly describing her as a prostitute.  Recall that this month, Mercy started following her husband on Instagram and other social media platforms after unfollowing him earlier. Mali’s army said on Saturday it had killed 14 jihadist suspects who were trying to escape detention in its central region, the latest in a string of killings by the armed forces that have provoked condemnation from rights groups. Fourteen suspected jihadists were killed on Saturday during an alleged “escape attempt,” a day after they were taken in for questioning, the Malian army said in a statement.

Alphabet the parent company of Google, reported Monday that its profits hit $9.4 billion in the first three months of 2018, up from $5.4 billion a year earlier. The company’s bottom line was helped by the continued strength of its ad sales business. Google’s sales for the quarter jumped 26% to $31.1 billion. Its ads business accounted for $26.6 billion of that.
