The Federal government has advised the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider the 31st December ultimatum issue over the prolonged disagreement between the organised labour and state government on the proposed minimum wage of N30, 000.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed stated this while appealing to labour after a closed door meeting held with Mr, President at the presidential villa, Abuja.
The organised Labour on Thursday gave an ultimatum following Mr; President Statement that a “high powered technical committee” would be set up to devise ways to ensure that implementation of the new minimum wage would not lead to an increase borrowing.
On the contrary, Ayuba Wabba, the NLC president while addressing newsmen on Thursday disclosed organised Labour position over Buhari’s remarks, saying setting up a technical committee is not an automatic passage of the minimum wage report to the National Assembly.
According to NLC president, they reject it entirely the plan to set up another committee in whatever name to revisit the minimum wage report calling it a delay tactics.
However, Lai Mohammed commended the NLC for being a “patriotic Union” he expressed optimism in them that they will not embarrass the government of the day.
He added, he has so much confidence in the NLC that they will always stay by the government. He suggested that continuous engagement is the key. He promised to continue engage the Labour until they fully understand the position of government. The Minister said with that, a common ground will be arrived at that will be comfortable for both parties.
