The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said the country is losing over 700, 000 barrel of oil daily due to the activities of vandals in the Niger Delta region. The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru made this disclosure yesterday in a keynote address at the Maiden edition of the Nigerian International Pipeline Technology ad Security Conference (NIPITECS2017).
According to him, "the sabotage of oil pipeline forced Nigeria's daily production to as low as 1.3 million barrel per day, although the Federal Government had estimated 2.2 million barrels per day in the 2016 budget"
The GMD further hinted that in 2016 alone, over 44 vandalism incidents were recorded. In his breakdown, he disclosed that the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) recorded 27 incidents of vandalism while the Trans Forcados Pipeline (TFP) which has the capacity of producing about 300, 000 barrels per day recorded 17 breaches.
The GMD however said recent strategies adopted by the current administration were tackling the issue of vandalism in the region.
