The EFCC may have commenced an investigation of the recently sacked Executive Secretary of TETFund, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi Baffa, over allegations of corruption. According to Dailytrust, an EFCC team has been assigned the task of investigating the merits of the petition it received around August 2018, from the Centre for Public Accountability (CPA).
The report said the team would invite Baffa and the petitioners over allegations of abuse of office and breaching TETfund establishment rules while in office.
CPA, a Civil Society Organization in its petition signed by Executive Secretary Olufemi Lawson accused Baffa of improper contract award, among others, allegations that Dr. Baffa had denied.
CPA also alleged that Baffa issued an instruction to public owned universities to reserve 20 percent of all contracts on the intervention fund provided to them by TETFund for “stakeholders”.
“We strongly believe that these “Stakeholders” are none other than Dr. Abdullahi Baffa himself, his cronies and immediate family, many of whom he has used as fronts, in executing the numerous illegal contract being awarded to several higher institutions in clear violation of laid down procedures.” the petition further stated.
Meanwhile, the sacked TETFUND Boss has accused the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu for being responsible for his sack. He claimed that Adamu masterminded his removal because he refused to pay his contractor 10% kickback from the N200 billion distributed to tertiary institutions in the country.
“I do not regret my refusal to obey the minister’s directives because I cannot sabotage my country. Go and ask the minister. Eight months ago, Mallam Adamu Adamu sent one of his biggest contractors to tell me that the minister was angry with me for three reasons.
“The third issue is that TETffund disbursed over N200 billion to universities without remitting the percent kickback, amounting to at least N20 billion at 10 percent rate. The fact is that since I started this job, I have never demanded a single kobo from any university. If any university shows proof of collecting kickback from them, let death sentence be passed on me,” he added.
