The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yesterday disclosed that the power sector has recorded its ever national peak in power transmission of 5,459meagwatts (MW) of electricity supply. This was contained in a statement revealed by, Ndidi Mbah, the TCN General Manager of public Affairs saying this was recorded on 28th October 2020. Mbah stated that the power generated was efficiently transmitted through the transmission grid at a frequency of 50.26Hz by 8.15 pm on Wednesday.
She noted that the new peak has surpassed the 5.420MW earlier recorded on August 18 by 39.20MW. While commenting on the development, Sule Abdulaziz, the Acting Managing Director of TCN, applauded all the players in the power sector value chain for the feat. Abdulaziz attributed the steady improvement in the quantum of power delivery to a proper collaboration amongst the key players of the sector.
He revealed that the TCN was committed to working with the Generation and the distribution companies to sustain the power supply improvement to the advantage of the whole nation. The Minister of power, Saleh Mamman, had earlier informed the House Committee on the power that the Generation capacity of the company has improved significantly since the coming of President Buhari onboard.
In his statement; “Today, the installed grid power generation capacity has reached 13,000MW from 8000MW in 2015; similarly, transmission capacity has increased to 8000MW from 5000 in 2015. The distribution system has the capacity to evacuate 5500MW of power, having grown from 4500MW in 2015. The private sector ran distribution system have the least capacity in the power value chain,” the minister said.
“During the period between 2015 to date, the sector has recorded successes and has faced challenges. In order to deliver this administration’s promise of providing stable and affordable power to Nigerians, a way forward was defined and supported by Mr President’s political will.”
