A midnight fire has razed several shops, stalls, stores and other structures in the popular Muda Lawal market in Bauchi state. The fire which started quit late into the night of Wednesday and continued burning till the early hours of Thursday damaged properties worth millions of Naira before it was put out by combined effort of firefighters and people around. Information gathered revealed that the fire gutted a substantial part of the market. This is the second largest fire incident in Bauchi this year.
The cause of the inferno was yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report although there are strong indications that it started from one of the stores stocked with raw food items.
Officials of the market when contacted confirmed the fire incidence but could not give further details as they are still taking stock of what really happened.
In February goods worth million of naira were destroyed as fire gutted Bababa Shopping Plaza, located inside the popular Wunti Market in Bauchi metropolis. The State governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, who visited the scene ordered that the cause of the fire outbreak should be investigated.
