Kwara state Government has reversed its earlier policy directive that gives the state civil Servants a leverage of working for only three days a week. The state government had sometime in June, 5th, 2023 following the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government, through a letter originated from the office of the Head of Service, HOS, Mrs Susan Oluwole, reduced the work days for civil servants to three days a week instead of five.
The HOS revealed it was a decision by the state government to ameliorate hardship of transportation being faced by the civil servants to get to their work place.
However, yesterday, a counter order letter from the same HOS office was transmitted to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) reversing the policy.
Mrs Oluwole disclosed the decision followed an ongoing meeting by the organised labour and the federal government to fine-tune modalities that will make a more efficient service deliveries at all level of governance and at the same time considering the welfare of the civil servants.
The letter was signed by Mr. Okedare Adeyinka for the Head of service, said the intervention would be unveiled soon to the civil servants.
The letter partly reads, “I am directed to inform all heads of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) that the reduced number of working days have been reversed; hence, all categories of workers are to observe the normal five working days per week, with effect from July 10, 2023.
It added, “Workers not covered in the initial workday reduction, which lasted a few days, will have stipends given to them as a show of appreciation”.
Earlier, workers that were exempted from the three work day schedule were teachers, medical Health workers and other categories of staff were providing essential services.
