The Federal Government (FG) through the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has summoned cement manufacturers such as Dangote, BUA, Lafarge and others over the rising cost of cement in recent times. This development was made known by Orji Uchenna, the media aide to the Minister who stated, “It is common knowledge that the manufacturers have their challenges, which we shall look into, but from our findings, the disparity between ex-factory price and the market is wide.
“We therefore need to look into the situation and other issues with a view to finding a common front.”
According to reports, the price of a cement bag has risen to between N8,000 and N10,000 from the previous price of N4,000 and N5,000 a few weeks ago.
Similarly, the price of the product has surged to between N10,000 and N15,000 per bag in Abuja.
