The leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nasarawa state chapter has called on the Governor of the state, Tanko Al-Makura to reverse the punitive transfer of NLC leaders who were instrumental to last year's three months strike or face fresh action. The call was made on Saturday by former and present Labour Leaders in Lafia at a ceremony to commemorate the 40th anniversary of NLC in the country.
They claimed that the government had resorted to punitive measures against labour leaders at the forefront of labour agitations by transferring them to Nasarawa liaison offices in other states in order to isolate them from labour struggle.
Asoloko Maku, Chairman of NLC between 2007 and 2015 called on the current leaders of the union to stand up against government’s actions aimed at frustrating the union, and particularly advised them to pressurize government to reverse the transfers as they were done in bad faith.
Speaking, NLC Chairman, Abdullahi Adeka who said “Some were also transferred to Nasarawa State liaison offices in other state just to isolate them from the struggle, assured that by the Grace of God, and based on our discussions with the government, the transfer of the union leaders over their roles in the last strike action will be reversed.’’
