Grammy award-winning singer,, Damini Ogulu (Burna Boy) became the first Afrobeats star to perform live on the world’s most prestigious music stage after thrilling his audience with an electrifying performance. The singer opened his performance at around 4 a.m. with a performance of his popular song ‘Sittin’ On Top of The World’ feat. 21 Savage, alongside Brandy, joined them on stage.
Aside from Burna's highlight performance, it was a disappointing outing for Nigerian Afrobeats stars during the Awards as Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, Ayra Starr, Olamide and Asake failed to win from 10 nominations across five categories including the inaugural ‘Best African Music Performance’ category which Tyla emerged the winner.
Tyla was graced with Fela Kuti’s song “Water” when she stepped out to receive the award, however, fans believed there was a mix-up in the choice of song, as her song, "Water" should have been played instead.
Water, was a a global hit in 2023, debuting at three million views on YouTube on 7 October 2023 before surpassing 100 million views after a year.
