The President of the Youth Wing of the highest socio-cultural organization in the north, Arewa Youth, Alhaji Yerima Shettima has explained why northerners don't participate in popular reality television show, Big Brother Naija. Speaking to an online news platform, Dailypost, Shettima said the show promotes immoral content that are antithetical to the core values and culture of the region stressing that no core northerner can participate in such a show.

“No Northerner would appreciate such a programme. No core northerner will participate in a programme like the Big Brother Naija because of the immoral act involved.

“The show is immoral and we do not participate in such. No responsible child of a northern benefactor will participate. Even the non-Muslim, if they have proper upbringing, you cannot see them participating in the act of immorality.

“We have an identity, we have culture and our religion. We know how we look at life and how we go about it.

“Is it about the oral sex they are talking about or the irresponsibility? What is there to learn? It is totally out of place. It will be difficult for a northern to participate.

Recall that many viewers had berated the organizers of the show over perceived promotion of explicit contents with some calling on the Federal Government to ban it.

A presidential aide who spoke on the development however urged those not favorably disposed to the show to change channel, using their various remote control system, stressing that the government had no business banning the show. Laurretta Onochie in a series of tweets said the show was mainly for adult and posited that only irresponsible parents would allow their children view the programme.
