South Korea's Defence Ministry official, Chang Kyung-Soo has warned that North Korea may be planning to conduct more Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) tests. Kyung-Soo made the disclosure while appearing before Parliament to explain the country's military plans to frustrate or contain possible nuclear attack from North Korea.
According to him "We have continued to see signs of possibly more ballistic missile launches. We also forecast North Korea could fire an intercontinental ballistic missile." He also disclosed that following the heightened threat of attack, the Military was strengthening US-made Thaad Missile Defense System.
This is coming after North Korea again defied United Nation resolution by launching another missile at the weekend. Pyongyang reported that it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb that can fit on a long-range missile, threatening to conduct many more tests in the coming weeks.
The test is coming a day before the United Nations Security Council is billed to hold an emergency session. South Korea and Japan's leaders have agreed to push for stronger UN resolutions that would force North Korea to halt its nuclear program and to refrain from the further test.
Meanwhile, South Korean Military on Monday carried out another round of live drills simulating the destruction of Punggye-ri nuclear site in Kilju County, where North Korea carried out its bomb test. According to Army spokesman, Col. Roh Jae-Cheon, "The training demonstrates the South Korean military's resolve to destroy not only the origin of provocation but also the enemy's leadership and supporting forces if they threaten the security of our people."
