Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the leaders of Qatar and Bahrain, stressing the need for diplomacy to end the feud between Qatar and its Arab neighbours.
The telephone discussion was with Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, the Kremlin said on Saturday according to Reuters.
Putin stressed the need for direct dialogue between all governments involved in the dispute, which is exerting a negative influence on the Middle East, the Kremlin said.
Last month Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic and travel links with Qatar, accusing it also of courting regional foe Iran and supporting terrorism in the region. Qatar denies the accusations.
Russia said its interest and intervention in the region is for a “stable and peaceful” situation in the Arabian Gulf.
