Following the recent composition of National Food Security Council by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidency on Monday appealed to the private sector to play an advisory role to ensure the realization of the Council's objectives. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja said everybody would be carried along by the council that would be inaugurated on Monday.
He said the clarification was necessary in view of reservations expressed by groups that felt left out after the composition was announced.
The statement read in part;
“The Presidency wishes to affirm that the private sector will play an advisory role in the National Food Security Council recently announced by President Muhammadu Buhari. The President is aware of the huge interest indicated by the private sector since the composition of the Council was announced, as well as the reservations expressed by groups that felt left out.
“We wish to emphasise that the Council constituted by the President was more of a think tank that would focus mainly on policy, while various groups from the private sector would be called upon to make sectoral presentations from time to time.
“Everybody will be carried along as the Council will work closely with all stakeholders. The Council will be inaugurated by President Buhari on Monday, March 26.”
Recall that the Presidency on Friday announced that the council which Buhari will personally chair has the governors of Kebbi, Taraba, Plateau, Lagos, Ebonyi and Delta States as members. The statement listed other members of the council to include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; the Chief of Staff to the President; the National Security Adviser, seven ministers and the Director General of DSS.
