Court Sentences Maina's Son Faisal To 14 years For Fraud

Faisal, son of former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Abdulrasheed Maina has on Thursday been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The Presiding Judge, Justice Okon Abang jailed Faisal, after he was found guilty on a three-count charge of money laundering involving N58.1 million filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A number of high-profile Nigerians including ex-Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi have on Monday been named in the biggest leak of secret offshore financial data of the world's rich and powerful people by Pandora Papers, revealing hidden deals and assets. The Pandora papers investigation was carried out by about 600 journalists from media firms including The Guardian, BBC, Premium Times, and The Washington Post after the 11.9 million documents from 14 financial companies across the world were leaked.

Media Parade Of Suspects Prohibited In Lagos – Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has signed the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) of Lagos State, as amended in 2021, prohibiting the media parade of suspects. The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) made the disclosure on Tuesday in a statement, saying the governor accented to the amended ACJL on 30th September. Onigbanjo said The provisions include "conducting criminal proceedings through audio and video conferencing platform, powers of Chief Magistrate to visit Police Stations, prohibition of media parade of suspects, compensation to victims of crime, protective measures for victims and witnesses as well as the Establishment of a Crime Data Register and the Criminal Justice Sector Reform Committee to monitor the implementation of this Law.

EFCC Arrests Kano State Governor’s Wife Over Fraud

Dr. Hafsat Ganduje, the wife of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a land fraud and bribery case brought forward by her son Abdulazeez. Hafsat was arrested on Monday evening and was still at EFCC headquarters as of 6 am on Tuesday. Hafsat was invited by the EFCC following reporting of the case but she declined to honour the invitation which necessitated the arrest. She was said to have traveled to the UK at the time to attend the graduation ceremony of her son. Abdulazeez was said to have reported his mother to the commission for corruptly using family power and status for personal enrichment. According to the report, Abdulazeez in his petition had mentioned that he was approached by a property developer to help facilitate the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano with some hundreds of thousands of US dollars and at least 35 million Naira as “facilitation commission.”
