About 769 state civil service workers in Osun state were trapped in a certificate scandal. The information was contained in a statement signed by, Adelani Baderinwa, the supervisor to the Ministry of Information which was made available to journalist in Osogbo on Friday.
The statement revealed that, a consultancy firm, Captain Consultants, whom was engaged about five years ago by the state government to authenticate the credentials of its workers has completed its assignment and has submitted it report. The report has indicted no fewer than 769 workers in different departments.
Mr Baderinwa disclosed that workers verification has become necessary after the government have received series of certificate forgery report by some workers to secure appointment in the civil service.
According to PremiumTimes, he said in a bid to follow up the case, all civil servants in 2015 were asked to tender their credentials in their personal files, subsequently Captain Consultants firm got access to their results and swing in to verify.
“Some of the workers who were suspected to have forged results were summoned by the firm and directed to present their original statement of results or proceed to their various schools for either attestation or re-confirmation.
“The consultants, on its own approached the schools for the verification of such results’ for all the affected workers which they were obliged.
Consequently, “The verification process uncovered serious certificate violation and forgery on the part of most workers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Government.
“In some cases, as discovered during the process, some of the affected workers discovered to have used another person’s result, while others forged their O’level and post-secondary schools results to sneak their way into the civil service.
“Similarly, others employed as drivers in the service, were discovered that they forged the O’Level results they submitted for their appointment.
Baderinwa further stated that the firm’s report recommended sanctions for 102 drivers and 30 other workers on compassionate grounds.
A total of 586 workers are to face the wrath of the law while the cases of some 51 workers are still pending.
Meanwhile, as the exercise is still on, some of the workers who were cleared were asked to go ahead and receive their salary while those that are found wanting have their salary suspended.
