The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced that it stands with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and will embark on a nationwide protest on July 26th and 27th, 2022 in solidarity with the Union. This development was disclosed in a circular signed by the National President, Ayuba Wabba, to all NLC state chairmen.
It can be recalled that the NLC had given the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to resolve the lingering issues with ASUU who had been on strike for four (4) months.
Since the ultimatum has elapsed and the strike is still on, the president of NLC Ayuba Wabba in a circular stated that “In line with the decision of the National Executive Council, NEC meeting of the Nigerian Labour Congress held on 30th of June 2022, we have scheduled the National Days of Protest to get our children back to school and support our unions in Nigerians public universities fighting for quality education.
“Date, Tuesday 26th July 2022 and Wednesday 27th July 2022
“Venue: At the state capitals of the Federation and Abuja the Federal Capital Territory. Take-off points: NLC state secretariats and the Labour House Abuja.
“You are requested to immediately convene the meetings of your SAC to disseminate this information and to fully mobilise workers in the states for this very important protest for good governance.”
