The Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian Universities, ASUU say the union is still studying the Appeal Court judgement before making any comment as the industrial court judgement directing ASUU to suspend the strike has been affirmed by the Appeal Court ASUU was given the shock of its life today when the Appeal Court today upheld the judgement by the National Industrial Court that the lecturers should go back to the classroom with immediate effect. Reacting to the latest court judgement, ASUU president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke disclosed that the union is yet to receive a copy of the Appeal Court ruling before it will make any comment.
He revealed that when the union received the correspondence officially from the Appeal Court, it will thoroughly study the document with the help of its lawyers before it will respond in due course.
In his statement, “We have not received the ruling, when we get it, we will review it with our lawyer and then we can take the next step”.
Recall that the Federal Government after failing to reach an agreement with ASUU was dragged by ASUU to Industrial Court, but the FG secured a judgement in its favour from the Court directing ASUU to without condition suspend the industrial action and return back to their duty while the negotiating continue.
Dissatisfied by the judgement, ASUU approached Appeal Court to challenge the ruling of the Industrial Court and has goofed for the second time as the judgement has still turned out in favour of the federal government.
