Following the overwhelming insecurity that has bedeviled Nigerian, the Military has concluded a plan to recruit 8,000 soldiers into its fold to boost its manpower.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, APC Borno, Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, made this known yesterday while interacting with newsmen in Maiduguri.
The Senator was optimistic that in the year 2021, the military would step up its game in the fight against banditry and decade-long terrorism that has ravaged the country which has slow down economic activities.
Ndume said, “Instead of the normal recruitment of 4,000 or 6,000 soldiers at a time, we have asked them (the military) to recruit about 8,000 soldiers.
“The new recruits are undergoing training in Zaria and Falgori in order to beef up the number of the troops,” the lawmaker said.
He revealed that the Federal Government in its quest to end the insecurity, the Army have taken delivery of more military gadget to step up its operations.
The Lawmaker disclosed that being determined to end insecurity in the Land; the Federal Government had also increased the budget of the Military by 25% from the previous year, which is now N100billion as against n75billion of the last year 2020.
Ndume applauded the military that despite challenges they face at the war front, they have remained resilient in the fight.
