There is intense tension at Gauraka Community, Tafa LGA, Niger State, following another late-night abduction of 15 persons and the killing of three others by unknown gunmen who invaded the community around 1:17 on Monday. This has resulted in the complete blocking of the Abuja-kaduna highway by irate youths who are protesting the deterioration of security in the community. The protesters halted the movement of traffic on the Abuja-Kaduna highway which runs across the Gauraka community while burning tyres to create a scene. The irate youths in their numbers went on rampage as early as 6:00 am on Monday.

They barricaded the busy road with bonfire, stones, and wood, in order to attract the attention of the government. They insisted that no motorists will pass until the government address the insecurity concern in the area.

The angry youths lamented that despite the presence of the military presence and Zuma Barracks, kidnappers operate without check in the area, a regrettable situation that has robbed the residents of their sleep as they have become helpless.

They further lamented that From January till date more than 30 persons from the community have been kidnapped and are still held captive, with huge sums of money being demanded by their abductors for their release.
