One Dead As Protest Erupts In Lafia

A deadly demonstration erupts in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital, on 20th March 2023 as the indigenes have taken to the streets to express their displeasure over the outcome of the just concluded Gubernatorial election in the state. Reports have it that one person has been reportedly killed, while some others were wounded with various degrees of injury after the demonstration became violent in various streets of the town. An eyewitness account stated that the protesters also engaged in acts of vandalism and destruction of public and private property.

Meanwhile, security agencies have been deployed to strategic locations to forestall the spread of violent protests and maintain law and order.

The incident has sparked up concerns and calls for transparent elections in Nigeria, with an appeal to the relevant authorities to address the underlying issues that provoked the protest.

Attempts to obtain confirmation from the police Command in the state proved abortive as the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Ramham Nansel could not respond to text messages, pick up calls, or issue statements on the protest at the time of filling the report.
