In a foiled tragedy today, a private aircraft conveying the minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on board crash landed in Ibadan, Oyo state after the jet experienced a hazy weather. Although, the earlier information gotten was that the private jet crashed, but it was later clarified that the airplane crash landed instead. At the time of filling this report, details of the incidence was still sketchy as the incident happened last night.
It was not clear whether those on board were safely landed or not, as this was coming after the Nigerian metrological Agency, Nimet, issued a warning of hazy weather.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had also cautioned Pilots and Airline Operators to exercise restrain as the hazardous weather is becoming threatening coupled with the dry season approaching.
According to a source, the chartered aircraft Flint Short Aero, an HS 125 having a registration number: 5N-AMM, had an initial contact with the control tower at 18:56 seeking for extension, which was granted by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
The aircraft departed Abuja with Ibadan as its last destination.
It was learned that the aircraft landed short of the entry with about 50 metres and skidded into a bushy ditch close to the runway.
Though, the authority is yet to issue a statement, but the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has been informed of the seriousness of the incident.
Meanwhile, spokesperson with NSIB, Mr. Tunji Oketunmbi, told Daily Trust that the Bureau’s investigators were on ground in Ibadan to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the incident.
