Some gunmen on Thursday attacked Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria in Kaduna State, abducting some lecturers and their families, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mallam Abdullahi Shehu confirmed the incident. He added that the management of the school alongside the police is working to ascertain the exact number of people affected. The attack occurred between 10:00 and 11:00 pm Thursday night, at the main campus, popularly known as “UPE” situated along the Zaria expressway, leaving some students injured.
According to a statement issued by Aliyu Kofa, publicity secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), two students sustained gunshot wounds, saying “One of them, Ahmed, from the department of statistics, died in the hospital from the injuries,” Kofa said in the statement.
“While the other is still receiving medical attention at the clinic.”
He also said a wife of a lecturer, Ahmed Abdu, and two of his sons were abducted but released Friday morning.
The Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic attack comes weeks after the abduction of students from Greenfield University and Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Afaka, both in Kaduna State.
