The Information, Culture and Tourism Minister, Lai Mohammed described as “absolute fake news” the report going around that the abducted Leah Sharibu is dead in the custody of Boko Haram. The Minister said “absolute fake news, and such thing is arrant nonsense” the Minister disclosed this to reporters at the news conference held in Ilorin, Kwara state.
He described Leah’s death, which surfaced as the presidential election is around as calculated mischief by the opposition to sway supporters of President Buhari and taint his administration in bad light and exploit the elemental sentiment ahead of the presidential pool.
The Minister spoke on a day the Leah Sharibu family renewed their appeal to the Federal government and International community to continue to demand the abducted girl release from the terrorist.
The Minister revealed “it is part of the opposition strategies to use everything at their disposal against the Buhari administration and his government. He added he think the opposition are realising the hopelessness of their position.
“Every day they are surprised by the support Mr. President is receiving from all part of Nigeria and they have resolved that they are going to spread falsehood, inflame obsession and make this election a Muslim-Christian affair or North-South affair, but people have lost hope in them.”
On today’s presidential campaign rally in Ilorin, Mohammed said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has put everything in place to make the President’s visit a hitch-free event.
He disclosed the crowd that will welcome Mr, President will be organic as the party is not known for crowd renting.
The minister appealed to security agencies to create a level playing ground for all the contestants in the election and allow people to freely exercise their franchise, he added that those involved in lawful activities have nothing to fear.
The Minister also described the protest in some quarters over the redeployment of police commissioners across the country as another evil plot by the opposition, which according to him, has been targeted to discredit the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
