The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Thursday published the 2017 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) result. The Registrar of the Council, Prof. Charles Uwakwe announced the result at the Headquarters of NECO in Minna, the Niger State Capital. He stated that out of the 1, 051, 472 candidates who sat for the examination, only 745, 053 got the required five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

The United Labour Congress (ULC) has threatened to commence industrial action from Friday (tomorrow) if the Federal Government fails to meet their demands. The National President of ULC, Joe Ajaero made the position of the Congress known in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja. Ajearo said the planned action became imperative following perceived refusal by the government to address their demand after the expiration of two separate ultimatums issued in August and September.

The Presidency has accused the former Minister of Education and Co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Group, Oby Ezekwesili of being a sectional leader whose comments seek to provide ammunition to separatist agitations. Oby Ezekwesili had on Wednesday called on President Buhari to rise above sectionalism and order immediate withdrawal of the military from the South East.

Nigeria is soliciting for comprehensive reforms particularly in the UN Security Council to reflect equitable representation of Africa in Permanent Membership category. The Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama stated this in Abuja at a press briefing on Nigeria’s agenda for the 72nd United Nations General Assembly, taking place in New York, United States.
