The convention was coming weeks after the Supreme Court settled the party's protracted leadership tussle between Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff and the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee in favour of the later.

The Peoples Democratic Party has extended the tenure of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee. The tenure of the committee was extended by four months, starting from today, August 12, 2017.The decision was taken today at its non-elective national convention in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, today warned residents to desist from engaging in carrying out jungle justice on suspected persons in the state. He noted that such acts violate the laws of the land and also dents the image of the State. Owoseni gave the warning in a statement, said that as much as there was no legal justification for jungle justice, in most cases, vital evidence that could aid the Police in the course of the investigation were destroyed.

The presidency has accused corrupt politicians of being behind the ongoing protest in the Federal Capital Territory seeking the "Return or Resignation" of the President, Muhammadu Buhari. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu made this known on Thursday when he received members of Centre for Civil Society and Justice, a Coalition of Civil Society Organizations that had earlier staged a rally in support of the President.
