The five newly registered political parties have been issued certificate of registration by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu presented the certificate to the party leaders on Friday in Abuja at the Commission's headquarters.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called on the Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede to commence immediate prosecution of the operators of 48 blacklisted Computer Based Test (CBT) Centres used for the conduct of the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi made the call on Thursday in Lagos while addressing select journalists. He noted that while the blacklisting of the fraudulent operators was commendable, the Board should go beyond that by prosecuting them to serve as a deterrent.
“What JAMB has done in that respect is a welcome development and a good decision. I will not expect it to stop at just blacklisting of such centres. The leadership of the board should go a step forward by prosecuting owners of the affected centre in order to serve as a deterrent to others. This measure will further ensure that the integrity of the examination cannot be undermined,’’ he added

Ogunyemi also called on security agencies to beam their search light on these fraudsters to frustrate their activities. He also warned parents and guardians to always verify centres where their wards are billed to take their CBT to forestall unpleasant consequences.

The Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, granted the application of the Federal Government to shield 14 of its witnesses billed to testify for the prosecution in the ongoing trail of the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd). The court, in a ruling that was delivered by trial Justice Ahmed Mohammed, granted leave for all the prosecution witnesses to give their evidence behind screen.
