The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday formally bowed out of office with a special valedictory session held in his honour at the State House, Abuja. According to Punch, President Muhammadu Buhari led other members of the Federal Executive Council to bid the Ekiti State governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress farewell at a brief event held inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The report says the session was held before the start of the weekly meeting of the FEC presided over by Buhari.
The President in his remarks, described Fayemi as a man of sound intellect, stressing that his contributions helped the present administration to achieve progress, especially in the solid minerals sector.
The President also called for increased public awareness campaign a to enable people collect their Permanent Voters Card to elect candidates of their choice at all levels in the 2019 general elections.
Meanwhile, some of his former colleagues in the Cabinet who made contributions expressed optimism that Fayemi has what it takes to rescue Ekiti state.
Speaking, Fayemi who is billed to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Ekiti governorship election thanked President Buhari for the opportunity given to him to serve. He also appreciated his former colleagues for the support he enjoyed while serving in the cabinet.
