The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations of Nigeria, CCSON, on Friday warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to shun any negative tendency that may derail the nation’s democracy through alleged undue favoritism and nepotic appointments.

The Coalition made its position known shortly after INEC announced the appointment of Amina Zakari as the Head of INEC Collation Centre. In a statement issued by its Director of Programme, Pat Anyanwu also warned security agencies to be neutral.

“The appointment of Zakari to head the INEC Collation centre is morally wrong due to her relationship with one of the contestants (President Buhari).

“It is only here in Nigeria that office holders still stay in office to contest elections in Nigeria, a situation that make them use their offices to rig themselves into office again.

“We advocate that office holders should resign six months to an election if they desire the re-contest elections. Again, the Coalition has concluded plan to organize a Save Democracy Rally throughout the country by late January to demand for credible elections next month.”
