INEC: Senate Confirms Appointment Of 19 RECs

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of 19 Residential Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). President Muhammadu Buhari had asked the Senate in a letter dated July to confirm the nominees stating that their nomination was in accordance with Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).


5 nominees confirmed for reappointment are Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa State), Obo Effanga (Cross River State, Prof. Samual Egwu (Kogi State), Agboke Olaleke (Ogun State), and Umar Ibrahim (Taraba State).

The remaining 14 nominees confirmed by the Senate for new appointments include Prof. Uzochukwu Chijoke (Anambra State), Barr. Hudu Yunusa (Bauchi State), Dr. Oliver Tersoo (Benue State), Yomere Oritsemlebi (Delta State), Elizabeth Agwu (Ebonyi State), Agu Uchenna (Enugu State), Pauline Ugochi (Imo State), Yahaya Ibrahim (Kaduna State) and Zango Abdu (Katsina State).

Others for fresh appointments are Nura Ali (Kano State), Prof. Abayami Salami (Oyo State), Prof. Muhammed Bashar (Sokoto State), Mohammed Nura (Yobe State), and Ahmed Garki (FCT).
