Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) may suspend the ongoing strike any moment from Friday after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government on Thursday. The National President of SSANU, Samson Ugwoke who spoke to newsmen after a crucial meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, in Abuja stated that the resolution was signed by the parties involved.
He further stated that the leadership of the unions would now take the agreement to their members before a definite position would be taken regarding the industrial dispute.
According to him “the three-page agreement was signed and endorsed by all of us; We are taking our document and we will make our pronouncement soon.” Confirming the development, the Minister said it was now left for the Joint Action Committee to consider the agreement and call off the strike.
“Based on this conclusion, we all agreed that the JAC will consult its organ with a view to calling off the strike as soon as possible”
