Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, insisting that power must be zoned to the southern part of the country, as it would amount to a miscarriage of fairness if another Northerner succeeds Buhari in office. Fayose, an ally to Governor Nyesome Wike, Rivers State Governor who came second after Atiku in the PDP presidential primary election Shortly after the presidential primary election, the main opposition PDP summoned most of its stakeholders to decide who shall deputize Atiku in the Presidential Villa come 2023 and was narrowed down to, Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta State Governor
Shortly after choosing Governor Okowa for the party, the PDP started experiencing post-primary election problems as Governor Wike has kicked against the selection of Okowa by the party bigwigs as Atiku's running mate.
Although most party stakeholders recommended, Governor Wike over Okowa, Atiku settled for Okowa for reason only known to him which has now pitched the party against itself.
First, it was Godsday Orubebe, a former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, who declared that he has dumped the party for refusing to endorse a southern candidate against the party principle.
Similarly, today Wednesday, 29th June 2022, Fayose withdraw his support for the PDP as a party saying the southern part of the country has been short-changed.
According to Fayose, “The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims & objectives by adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of Party & Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice, and fairness.
“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’.” Fayose added.
Shortly before Fayose's tweet, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State while charting with the TVC correspondence said he was waiting for God to tell him before he will support Atiku, though insisting that Wike would have been the right running mate to Atiku.
