The Nigerian Senate has stated that the perennial under-funding of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other anti-graft agencies in each budget year is an indication that the country is not yet ready to fight corruption.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Senator Chukwuka Utazi who drew the conclusion during the 2018 budget defence by the Commission before the Committee, lamented that ICPC had been greatly incapacitated with poor funding.
He said, “The trouble of ICPC has always been poor funding.

The Political Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, Sen. Babafemi Ojudu says the presidency was well aware of plans by the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) stressing that the presidency was not perturbed by his action.  He disclosed that Atiku left the party because he could not realize his presidential ambition in the party. Ojudu who made this known while appearing on Channels Television accused Atiku of twisting the fact to deceive Nigerians.

Former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon says poverty remains one of the major challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation. General Gowon stated this on Wednesday while giving a speech at an event organized by the House of Justice, Kaduna. The former head of state who was represented at the event by former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana said for the menace to be addressed, the federal government must make concerted efforts toward job creation for the teeming youths.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, said he has not made up his mind to run for the residency in 2019. Atiku told the Voice of America (Hausa), when he featured on a magazine programme on Tuesday, that Nigerians will know when he eventually takes the bold move. “For now I have not made up my mind. When I decide, I will let the world know.”

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki may have thrown his weight behind the All Progressives Congress in respect of the controversial approval by state governors for the withdrawal of $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account to assist the war against insurgency in the North East. Sen. Saraki on Thursday said the APC will not spend public funds without following due process assuring senators that the executives would follow the law in the withdrawal of the money.
