Sixteen Local Government Chairmen in Ekiti state have sued the Attorney General of the Federation and Governors of the 36 states over the approval of the sum of $1billion from the Excess Crude Account of the Federation for the fight against the insurgency. They have demanded an order of injunction restraining the Federal government and the 36 states governors, their agents, servants, privies, representatives in interest, howsoever called and by whatsoever name designated, from giving effect

A Former National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in charge of Southwest, Prof Lai Olorode has placed politics over governance as the major challenge confronting public administration in Nigeria.

He said what brings about transformation in any country is ethical governance and not politics.

Prof Olorode made the statement while speaking to Channels Television at a workshop on the “Bisi Akande Phenomenon Governance, Economy and Politics in Iwo, Osun State.

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for a law that will compel public officers and traditional rulers to undergo drug test in the country.

He made the call at the Senate Roundtable on drug abuse held in Kano on Monday.

The event is organised by the Senate in order to address drug abuse epidemic in the country.

The Governors of Ekiti and Rivers states, Ayodele Fayose and Nyesom Wike have called on the Federal Government to immediately release their share of the $1 billion earlier approved by state governors to be withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account to assist the war against the insurgency. Recall that last week at the National Executive Council meeting, state governors Okayed the withdrawal to prosecute the campaign against the insurgency.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday received another batch of one hundred and sixty-seven (167) returnees from Libya at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. The Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Maihajja, who received the returnees in conjunction with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the European Union (EU) the addition, brings the total number of Nigerians brought back from Libya in the last four days to 532.

President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the tenure of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin.
