The Presidency has faulted rumour emanating from some pedlars of fake news that the Federal Government was accommodating the repentant Boko Haram element into the military. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu revealed this, saying none of the 601 repentant terrorist elements who were recently deradicalized has been integrated into the Nigerian Military.
The Presidential Spokesperson in his statement caution some rumour mongers that spreading of fake news would not help them as such claim were purely from their imagination.
He revealed that the federal government followed the laid down procedure for the deradicalization of the repentant terrorists.
In his statement, “Now that groups with hitherto proven bonafide, some religious leaders and a few in the legislature have joined the supply chain of fake news, it important that we step in to clear the false reports that the administration is absorbing repentant Boko Haram terrorists into the military.
“It is important for the public to know that nobody has ever been absorbed into the military from the de-radicalized Boko Haram and there is no such plan for their absorption.
“None of the 601 former Boko Haram members who voluntarily laid down their arms, and have recently graduated from the Federal Government’s de-radicalization and rehabilitation programme, is going into the military. This is the fourth such graduation of repentant Boko Haram fighters and not one of such graduates has been absorbed into the military.”
Recall that 601 repentant terrorists after undergoing deradicalization process were reintegrated into the society in July by the federal government.
Major General Bamidele Shafa, the Coordinator Operation Safe Corridor disclosed that some of the deradicalised repentant terrorists include 14 foreign nationals from Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic.
The action of the federal government on deradicalizing the terrorist received a backlash from some section of the society that the government is pampering the terrorists while the war is still on.
