Instagram is allowing new features to help people manage what they see and how much time they spend on the app. Instagram is adding the option to mute people from appearing in your feed. With an update rolling out “over the coming weeks,” you’ll be able to choose to remove someone’s posts, or both their posts and their stories, from appearing on Instagram’s main screen.

Cambridge Analytica, the firm at the center of this year’s Facebook privacy row, filed for voluntary Chapter 7 bankruptcy in a New York court late on Thursday.

Cambridge Analytica LLC listed assets in the range of $100,001 to $500,000 and liabilities in the range of $1 million to $10 million.

Facebook has been under the microscope over the last couple of months following on from the Cambridge Analytica revelations. Since then, Zuckerburg and the Facebook team have been reviewing policies and have been investigating other apps that may be harvesting large amounts of user data. So far, the investigation has seen Facebook suspend around 200 apps.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has apologised to European Parliament lawmakers on Tuesday, for its role in the Cambridge Analytica scandal and for allowing fake news to proliferate on its platform.

Several Members in the European Parliament (MEPs) asked the Facebook chief if he felt that the firm was a monopoly. He was also questioned about whether the company could be trusted to implement necessary changes.

Guy Verhofstadt MEP asked Mr Zuckerberg if he wanted to be remembered as "the genius who created a digital monster."

Facebook purge 583 million fake accounts in the first three months of 2018, demonstrating the amount of spam, violent content and hate speech that gets smeared across the social network.

In its first quarterly Community Standards Enforcement Report, Facebook said the overwhelming majority of moderation action was against spam posts and fake accounts: it took action on 837m pieces of spam, and shut down a further 583m fake accounts on the site in the three months.

Researchers say Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), a widely used method of encrypting emails has been found to suffer from a serious vulnerability.

PGP is a data encryption method sometimes added to programs that send and receive email.

Details about the vulnerability were released by the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper prior to a scheduled embargo.
